Irritable Bowel SyndromeÂ
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a chronic functional gut disorder characterised by recurrent symptoms of abdominal pain, flatulence or discomfort associated with a change in stool output.
The functional nature of this condition means that it is not caused by underlying disease. The exact cause of IBS is unknown, although it’s been linked to diet, stress, anxiety, alterations in the gut bacteria, changes in the speed at which food moves through the gut, and a family history of IBS.
Diet and lifestyle play a significant role in managing IBS, and we can help you understand why you experience gut symptoms and provide guidance on diet and non-diet approaches for you to take control over your IBS.
In some cases, the first-line dietary and lifestyle advice might not resolve the symptoms. In this case, the second-line treatment including Low FODMAP Diet could be a more suitable option. Low FODMAP Diet can be implemented with support of a trained dietitian.
